Una brutta scena

Oggi sono andato all’isola ecologia e tra le varie chicche buttate nell’immondizia ho visto un paio di PS3 e una ventina di giochi. Che tristezza, non capisco perché la gente butti all’immondizia quei gioielli, TRISTEZZA!!! Ecco cosa è per me il retro ogni device antico è prezioso.

Dove ero rimasto? Ah si, si parlava di Retro macchine, nel mio articolo ho parlato del mio parere nei confronti del Retro coinvolgendo anche i membri del nostro staff. Oggi, invece sono andato i giro per i social a contattare i vari amministratori di gruppi retro abbastanza affermati. Ho rivolto a loro una sola domanda

Cosa vi ha avvicinato al retro?

La prima persona a rispondere è stato il nostro amico Roberto amministratore del noto gruppo Retrogames Sardegna, lui ci a risposto con semplicità e tanta passione dicendoci :

Mi sono avvicinato al retro, quando un caro amico mi ha presentato sotto gli occhi un commodore 64 che ha recuperato da conoscenti e se lo è sistemato.

Essendo un nostalgico mi è salita una grande nostalgia di quegli anni ed ho cominciato per primo a sistemare il mio che non l’accendevo da anni e poi a recuperare vecchio materiale retro sia per quello che riguarda home computer e console, ma anche vecchi giochi da tavolo.

Ma noi non ci siamo fermati solo al suo famoso gruppo e siamo andati in giro per il mondo arrivando a Malta dove abbiamo trovato un bellissimo gruppo AMIGA Malta user group gestito da Walter che ha avuto il piacere di rispondere alla nostra domanda raccontandoci moltissimo della sua vita retro ma a lui la parola :

A little info about myself and how I got into video games:
Born in March 1982 and at only age 5 or 6 years I have seen the first computer at my cousin’s home, which was the mighty C64 along with the datasette, joystick and guns and lots of tape cassettes…

Now here comes the funny part…My cousin used to smoke a lot and he impressed me by showing me cigarette burn marks on the tablecloth where the C64 was, stating that ” these are real bombs coming out of the computer screen”, that left me jaw-dropped, LOL.

The SID tunes still gives me goosebumps and listen to them often on either my Amigas or smartphone.
Next, while attending MUSEUM [religion lecture education] I saw the famous Famicom console, where it had always the “64 in 1” cartridge and I played mostly the game “Islander” by Hudson soft, other games I frequently played where Twinbee, Mappy, and Road racer.

Then eventually they changed it to the more-modern Micro-Genius, with those infrared wireless controllers [wowww :D] Both consoles were hooked

to the Commodore 1084S model.

Growing up I was always hooked to arcade video games, for example while attending music band lessons I played games such as Ghost n Ghouls, Toki, Dark Seal, Samurai Showdown, KOF 98, Street Fighter 2, Super Hang-on, Metal Slug-X, X-Men, and Mortal Kombat 1 & 2 among others.

From the moment I saw Street Fighter 2, I got hooked and said I want this right now! It was at the Arcades in Valletta, where I heard Ryu [or Ken] shouting Ha Do Ken. I was upstairs near the Digitone shop watching the display and shopping with mum.

I remember that I instantly ran downstairs leaving my mum LOL and spent don’t know how and would not move from the SF2 arcade. Mum kept shouting to go home and I did not budge haha.

Meanwhile I played SF2 everywhere, kazini, bars, restaurants, I also remember I was so hooked that if I ran out of 10c coins, the bar owner gave me some cents to play again…
It was then at secondary school that I learned about home computers and consoles.

At that time everyone had an Amiga computer and only few [rich ones] had consoles such as NES, Master System or the SNES.

A friend of mine [Roderick Camilleri] lent me the book of the C= monitor 1084S and that was the start of the Amiga addiction. I saw several friends buying copies of games at 60c [Maltese liri] from a janitor / cleaner at the school LOL, choosing titles from an exercise book.

It was crazy.!!

I even recall that we had a school project where me and my other 2 friends did an Amiga 1200 model made from wood and sheet and monitor which displayed Ryu and Ken in Ryu’s stage… Remember Dathan Delia? I still have that photo somewhere stashed, need to find it :p
I had no money at that time and my parents would not afford to buy me the Amiga back then.

I simply continued to save and progress in school in order to buy me one.
When I decided to buy an Amiga, guess what, in 1994 I went to buy the original Street Fighter 2 from Digitone stand from trade-fair at Naxxar [it was the Kixx-release].

Yes, this is before buying the actual Amiga! I adored the box religiously, looked at it everyday as an ornament and learnt the moves from it’s manual by heart LOL. Some point in time I also did cut out parts of the box and manual to make a scrap book full of moves

I still remember seeing Amigas everywhere in trade fair and shops such as furniture shops where the Amigas were used on desks…

Thing is that I was truly late, as my parents bought it only after I passed my school exams, which was in 1995!! And damn I could not find one, searched all computer shops, with everyone telling me

“The Amiga failed, why don’t you buy an IBM compatible PC ?”

I said no and kept on insisting [also remember salesmen from Digitone Fgura and Valletta wanting to introduce me to the Tatung PC] I was literally in tears, as I wanted the Amiga at all costs.

As a last resort I went to Economicard at Valletta where the logo on the banner up in the balcony already welcomed me in. Me, my friend Dathan and mum went inside and asked a salesman if he had any Amigas. He looked at us and after a brief pause he said “climb upstairs”. I was soooo relieved, [to me that sentence it was like the famous saying from Arnold’s Terminator film, “Come with me if you want to live” LOL].

It was there where I had bought my first Amiga computer, the A1200 Desktop Dynamite pack, still remembering carrying the large box in bus transport where 2 nuns stared at me all the way back home LOL I was soooo happy.

I had also booked for the Amiga orientation course and since this was a computer, my promise to my parents was to keep on studying :p I did print using Deluxe Paint IV, homework using Wordworth word processor, printed cassette tapes sleeves for techno music etc….

I think I still have the floppies somewhere…ahhh the memories keep flooding…

Nowadays I try to keep the Amigas alive, with time permitting, try to adjourn this local FB Amiga group and started to collect some Amiga related stuff.

As you can see, the C= logo always haunted me from the early childhood days and has a special place in my heart. I became so addicted that sometimes I wished and dreamed that I even worked for C=commodore LOL.

I conclude with the famous words, Only Amiga Makes it Possible!!

Ma non è tempo di fermarci perché ci ha risposto anche il mitico Luca amministratore di pianeta commodore :

Premesso che sono sempre stato un appassionato di Commodore, in pratica non ho mai avuto console di gioco, ma solo computer come ad esempio il vic 20, Commodore 64 e infine Amiga dal 500 al 1200, il tutto mi è riscoppiato ” ritrovando nel mio garage i miei cari vecchi computer che avevo conservato negli anni.

Da qui il passo è stato breve, mi è bastato postare una foto su un gruppo dedicato Facebook per far rinascere in me questa passione in modo talmente forte e prepotente da farmi ad oggi arrivare a collezionare cercando tutti quei Commodore e Retrocomputer che quando avevo 10 anni mi sarei sognato di avere.

Da qui poi la passione che mi ha permesso di aprire un gruppo Facebook seguitissimo come Pianeta Commodore che conta in 3 anni più di 4000 iscritti, e il mio canale You Tube, dove non mi sarei mai aspettato che diventasse così seguito da molti utenti.

Che dire, viva il Retro ma attenzione , seguire sempre questa passione come tale, quindi con il piacere di collezionare, non di avere tutto assolutamente.
